Life Path Number Calculator

To find your life path number, reduce your birth month, day and year to single digits (keeping 11, 22 and 33), add them, then reduce the total. For 14 July 1995: month 7, day 1+4 = 5, year 1+9+9+5 = 24 → 6; 7 + 5 + 6 = 18 → 1+8 = 9.

Enter your date of birth to reveal your life path number, see every step of the numerology calculation and read what your number is said to mean.

What is a life path number?

In numerology, the life path number is the most important number in your chart. It comes only from your full date of birth, so it never changes. Numerologists use it to describe your natural strengths, your challenges and the general theme of your life.

How to calculate your life path number by hand

  1. Write your birth date as month, day and year.
  2. Reduce each part to a single digit by adding its digits together. Keep 11, 22 and 33 as they are: these are master numbers.
  3. Add the three reduced numbers together.
  4. Reduce the total the same way until you get a single digit or a master number.

Reducing each part separately (the method used here) is the most common approach, because it keeps master numbers that would disappear if you simply added every digit at once.

Life path compatibility

Numerologists often compare life path numbers between partners or friends. Numbers in the same “family” are said to get along easily: 1, 5 and 7 (independent, curious), 2, 4 and 8 (practical, structured) and 3, 6 and 9 (creative, caring). Pairs from different families are described as complementary rather than incompatible. Like the rest of numerology, this is a reflection tool, not a rule.

Two ways to calculate — and why results can differ

Some websites add every digit of the date at once: 14 July 1995 becomes 1+4+0+7+1+9+9+5 = 36 → 9. Here the result is the same, but for other dates the shortcut skips a master number. Take 29 November 1990: reducing each part gives 11 + 11 + 1 = 23 → 5, while adding all digits gives 2+9+1+1+1+9+9+0 = 32 → 5 as well, yet the month and day master numbers only appear with the part-by-part method. That is why this calculator reduces month, day and year separately and shows each step.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my life path number?

Reduce your birth month, day and year to single digits (keeping master numbers 11, 22 and 33), add them together, and reduce the total again. For 14 July 1995: 7 + 5 (1+4) + 6 (1+9+9+5 = 24 → 6) = 18 → 9.

What are master numbers in numerology?

11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers. They are not reduced to a single digit because numerologists see them as stronger, more demanding versions of 2, 4 and 6.

Which life path number is the rarest?

Master numbers are the rarest, especially 33, because they only appear with specific combinations of birth month, day and year. Among single digits the frequencies are fairly even.

Can my life path number change?

No. It is calculated only from your date of birth, so it stays the same for your whole life. Other numerology numbers, such as personal year numbers, change every year.

Is numerology scientific?

No. Numerology is a traditional belief system with no scientific evidence behind it. Treat your life path number as a fun way to reflect on yourself, not as a prediction.
